Caulfield
This recently re-built house in Caulfield
had the building works finished and now was in need of some
landscaping to finish the theme of the property. The clients wanted
the garden to suit the design of the house, yet be relatively
maintenance-free and drought tolerant.
The design of
the building had a contemporary feel to it and needed a garden to
further enhance this theme.
A design
was done to give the client an idea as to what could be done. This
was one of the preliminaries-
The rear
yard was cleaned up, a retaining wall constructed around the fence
line to hold a garden bed, and instant turf laid
Planting
commenced on the front yard, with a variety of formal themed
plants. Cordyline and Phormium were used with a white pebble
mulch.
A water
feature and lighting was installed to further add a feature to the
front yard. The water feature was chosen to suit the other design
ideas of the home and garden.
Random
bluestone pieces were laid as stepping stones from the front to the
side gate
White
quartz pebbles were put over garden beds and river rocks were
scattered over the infill areas as a drought tolerant garden with a
contemporary theme. Acacia cognata "River Cascade"
were also used amongst the cordyline and flax
The
completed front yard complements the design theme of the house,
while being low maintenance and drought tolerant. Drip irrigation
was installed, to be connected up to a rainwater tank so that
garden watering can be done in the time of water restrictions.
