This new Balwyn residence,
which had just been completed, was in need of the landscaping to
finish off the build. The owners wanted a simple, usable space with
a slight Japanese-influenced design to suit both the house and
their styles.
Components of the work
included decking, drought tolerant (mostly native) plants, and
granite rocks to suit the theme.
Clean and bright granite
is well suited to contemporary/Japanese styles
Large granite boulders
support a series of steps to the upper level of the backyard.
Recycled sleepers are used as the step treads, with the ground
covered in compacted Donnybrook Toppings which can be paved over
later if need be.
Boulders were set in
particular arrangements to suit a Japanese style theme. While not
near strictly Japanese, particular traits can be adapted and used
in other gardens as well.
