Yallambie
The owners of this Yallambie house wanted to
get some landscaping for their front yard which had been the same
for a few decades. The idea was a multi tiered retaining wall
following the same curves as the driveway. There was a slope
involved and the wall would provide a flat area above the wall to
level it off.
A cream
coloured link block wall was chosen and laid level across the width
of the yard, the 1st course laid on mortar for stability.
The wall
had to be installed to take into account steep changes in level and
a curved line of the wall
Following accurate installation of the base
course of the wall the successive courses can be installed to
height, and a capping block installed to neatly finish off the new
retaining wall. Drainage was also installed behind the wall to
eliminate drainage problems and prolong the longevity of the
retaining wall, with no weight from waterlogged soil behind
it.
Topsoil
was applied for the lawn, organic soil put in for the garden beds,
and a clay paver edging laid as a border between the lawn and the
garden beds. An irrigation system was
installed to water the areas.
Mulch
and plants were applied to the garden beds, pebbles to the gap
between the wall and the pavement for a separative feature between
the 2 surfaces.
Sir
Walter Buffalo instant lawn was laid, regarded as the most drought
tolerant turf available.
