This house in Bundoora had some landscaping
done a few years previously but hadn't lasted the test of time and
was also in need of a spruce up. There was a need for some more
entertaining area, some more colour in garden beds and an
attractive frontage to the front yard.
After an extended pergola was erected
the excavation was done for the paving area. This was to allow a
sub-base, and a concrete slab foundation for a long-lasting paving
area.
After the concrete slab had cured,
Indian sandstone paving was laid on a mortar base and joints
grouted.
A non-glossy sealer was applied
to waterproof the area and ensure easy cleaning after
entertaining.
An irrigation system was connected to
the gardens and lawn areas in the backyard. Due to current water
restrictions a slimline water tank was fitted, and a pump installed
to run the irrigation.
The front yard was the next area to
undergo renovation. The grass was patchy and there were bald
patches of dirt. A design was done for the client
and a suitable outcome was reached to provide a much better look to
the front yard.
A small feature retaining wall
was constructed along the front boundary, with a curved, meandering
garden bed running behind with an array of roses ,each with a
different flower colour. Liriopes were plants as an understory
plant. Soil was cultivated ready for new instant turf.
Sir Walter Buffalo instant turf
was laid, with water saving additives to keep it going during the
warmer months. Washed sand is applied over the turf to aid in
establishment of turf tying together and aid in water
retention.
An irrigation system was added to the gardens, and pop up
sprinklers connected to the water tank to enable watering of the
lawn and garden.
Turf was also laid in the
backyard against the sandstone paving. A new garden bed was
constructed against the fence.
