This house in
Northcote had undergone some recent renovations and needed the
landscaping done to tie the whole project together. It had to match
the style of the house, be functional and add it's own style to the
site.
There were old Northcote pavers
laid down which had to be replaced, along with concrete paths which
were outdated |
|
These older
pavers didn't really provide a level pedestrian surface to walk
over and a design was done to provide a base for this
project |
|
The front yard
had probably been the same for decades, an older house, with old
concrete which was the trend back 50 years ago. There weren't any
plants at the front, and being the side facing the road, a design
was drawn up to complement the house and provide a modern, yet
classic look to the yard |
|
All old
pavers and concrete paths were removed, and there were also
some tree's and shrubs that were removed to make way for more open
space.
A short bluestone pitcher retaining wall was added as edging to the
garden bed which bordered the fence line and shed. The existing
lemon tree was made a feature with herbs planted underneath which
fitted the needs of the client.
Concrete 400 x 400mm pavers were laid in a grid pattern to allow
access to other areas of the yard |
|
The theme of
pavers continued around the side of the house. Phormium's (Flax
sp) were planted as a border and to add some softness to the
sideway. |
|
After
paving was completed, the voids between each paver were filled with
a polished white pebble and grouted into position. This gave the
paving areas a modern look yet still retaining the old character of
the property.
Instant turf was laid, while a granitic sand paving surface was
installed as a compact alternative to concrete or paving as the
driveway parking area.
Other plants
were put in and a mulch to finish off the setting |
|
The white pebble
look continues down the side of the house to expand on the theme.
|
|
The front of the
house had the same treatment as the rear, and also had a double row
of pavers to allow quick access from the gate to the door.
A bed of standard roses were planted along the fence to suit the
classic feel of the house, while phormium's and Convolvulus were
put into garden beds each side of the paths. On the side facing the
busy part of the road, some taller screen shrubs were added for
some privacy. |
