The owners of this
property had undergone some extension renovations, and therefore
required to fix up the areas of landscaping that were affected by
the construction. Paving had been ripped up, access to the upper
level backyard had been taken away and the area needed some work to
be a usable and pleasing area to both look at and use.
The property is on a very
steep block, and the access from the house to the backyard is also
very steep. There were previously a set of worn steps and path. The
upper area was tiered to form 2 lawn areas with garden beds
softening the edges and boulders provided a retainer for steep
areas between the path and lawn tiers.
There was a need for a retaining
wall in between the extension and the site cut. Galvanised steel
posts were installed with a sleeper wall that surrounded the
perimeter of the house. Drainage pipe and aggregate was installed
behind the wall to take all water away to drains, therefore
eliminating the weight against the retaining wall and stopping
water from entering the sides of the house. Rock boulders were placed at the
top of the wall to retaining garden bed soil on steep sections and
to provide character
A set of treated pine
sleeper steps was constructed to lead from the base paving area to
the carport and outdoor entertaining area, then a 2nd set wound
from that area to the upper sections of the backyard.
2nd hand red bricks were
used in the paving areas laid in a herringbone pattern, and
some steps to allow easy access to the back door
After paving and
construction of hard landscaping items were completed all garden
areas were mulched ready for planting
Lawn areas were covered
with topsoil and seeded, steps and path areas were filled with
compacted Lilydale Toppings.
