Bundoora Makeover #1
This house was built back in the late 60's
and while being well looked after, it was in need of a spruce-up.
Old popular plants were used in abundance and were relatively large
and overgrown.Concrete
paths were narrow and weathered, and there was no outdoor
entertaining area.
The decision was made by the owners to make
some additions to the landscape. There was limited space for off street car
parking, and they wanted a rear entertaining area. The front area
of the property was in need of some character and a
makeover.
The front yard was cleaned up, old shrubs
removed, driveway excavated and a thorough base laid down before
paving commenced.
A 2nd hand red brick border was chosen
with a central rectangle design, with random bluestone paving
covering the area.
A garden bed redone near the front
entrance with modern-looking yet hardy plants. Mulch added to set
off the finish. A pathway was also added to aid entry to house
whilst cars are parked in the driveway.
The rear yard had all overgrown shrubs
removed and large trees pruned. A foundation was dug for the raised
paving area, concrete poured and a brick retainer built to
accommodate the raised area.
The area was filled in stages with road base
and compactedfor a solid
paving foundation with a concrete foundation poured over. 2nd hand
red bricks were used as a header course border and
random bluestone used as the paving body.
Paving was grouted and sealed, before a
bluestone block BBQ was constructed and a water feature installed.
Lawn was cultivated and re-seeded
A BBQ was constructed using large 2nd hand
bluestone blocks. A BBQ unit was fitted to a cavity inside to sit
inside the top of the structure.
A bluestone crazy pattern was also used for
the benchtop, and some rustic looking timber doors fitted to put
items inside the unit.
Brick edging was installed as a border and
mower strip, garden beds improved and new plants added and
mulched
